What does it mean to be NYS Grown and Certified?
To be New York State Grown and Certified means that our farm, as part of the Onondaga Water and Soil District, uses Agricultural Environmental Management Practices.
For example, we use cover crops, so that no fields are left bare between seasons. This helps to build up organic matter in the soil while capturing leftover fertilizer and nutrients. We also utilize buffer strips in the fields to prevent soil erosion and the runoff of pesticides into waterways.
Aside from these conservation practices, Emmi Farms also follows a food safety plan, including Food Safety Audits, to eliminate as much risk as possible in growing our produce.
We have worked with the Onondaga Water and Soil District since 2006, and were recognized with the 2016 Onondaga County Conservation Farm of the Year award.
As of October 17, 2021, both our Liverpool and Baldwinsville locations are closed for the season. Like our page on Facebook for updates on our Spring 2022 open date!
